Prices for beef and mutton were ras'er than at the preceding sale, and lamb? also showed a Might droj) in valuos. The local freezing companies commenced operations at tho beginning of the week, and freezing buyers were operating frpely in beef, as well/as in mutton and lamb. Prices paid averaged from about B'd. to near 9d. for lamb, and full Government prices for mutton. Store' sheep were yarded in big numbers, a consignment from the North Island being penned. Values dropped very decisively, and a largo number were passed in. Fat lainhs: 2550 were yarded, compared with 700 in the preceding week. The quality was moderate, and values vrcro a few shillings easier. Extra nrimo lambs to 325. od.; prime, 275. 9d. to 31s. 9d.; medium. 255. 9d. to 275. 7d.; lighter, 2fls, Id. to 21s. fld. Store sheep: The big yarding was mostly of inferior quality, and j rices were on n much lower plane than at recent sales of North Island sheep. Forward med with indifferent demand. Good rape lambs, 17s. lOd. to 21s. Id. J ordinary, 14«. Od. to 17s. 4d.; cull and inferior lambs, Bs. 3d. to 135.; good four and six-tooth wethers. 30s. Gd.; medium four-tooth yrethers, 19s. to 235. Gd.; good two-tooth wethers, 21s. Gd. to 245. Gd.; inferior four-tooth wethers, 10s. lid."to 17s. Gd.; two-tooth ewes, 19s. 9d. to 245. 5t1.; good four and six-tooth ewes, 295. Gd.; aged ewes, 9s. Gd. to 15s. Fat sheep—There was a big yarding of good quality sheep, and the prices were back to pre-holidny rates. A fair proportion of yarding went to freezing buyers. Prime wethers, ifls. to -445. (id.; medium, 325. Gd. to 395. Gd.; lighter, 245. to 315.; prime ewes, 275. Gd. to 325.; lighter, 225. 3d. to 275.; prime hoggets, 355. Id. to 3Ss. 2d.; lighter, 21s. Fat cattle—l9s were penned. They were, of quality somewhat above, tho average. Extra prime steers to' .£3O 155.; -prime, £21 10s. to £2G 10s.; medium, £1G to £20; lighter, .119 to ,£ls; prime heifers, .£l3 105. to £17 17s. Gd:; lighter, .£8 to £12 155.; prime cows, £12 15s. to £20 175.. Gd.; lighter $nd inferior, '.£9 to .£ll 10s. Dairy cows—There was a good yarding of more lhan average quality. Heifers made to £15, and young cows to £18. Store cattle—There was a good sale for store cattle. Three-year steers, to £10 10s.; two-year, £l> 55.; yearlings, £3 55.; bulls, £20 10s.; dry cows, £9 7s. 6d. Vealers—The market was glutted, mostly with immature stuff, which was sacrificed. Runners to £7 10s.: good vcalers, 455. to 509.; medium, to 305.; calves, Gs. to 10s. Pigs—There was a large entry, and there was good demand. Extra heavy baconcrs, to £9 lis. 6d.; heavy bnconers, to £8 10s.; ordinary. £5 15s. to £7, tho average price being lljd, .to Is. per lb.; heavy porkers, £1 55.. to £5; ordinary, to £4, the- average.;'price' l being Is. Id.j chopper.;, £5 to £10. Store pigs—There was a big yarding, and a keen stale. Good stores, to £4 18s.; medium, £3 7s. Id.; weaners, 2Ss. to 4fls. Id.; sows in pig, £G 7s. 6d.
