* \'By Tolegmph.— Special Correspondent. Masterton, January 14. Ragwort, broom, giant burdock, lauhinu, and pennyroyal have been gazetted noxious weeds in the Ekotahuna county. Mr. li. Houlbrooke has been nominated bv the AYairarapa Returned Soldiers' Association for a seat on tlio AVairarapa Land Purchase Board. During the past week ono easo of searlot fever and ono of diphtheria have lxion reported in the AVairarapa health district. The receipts for the past month in connection with the Masterton. gasworks show a. net increase of Jllßs. The chief items were: (.las rates, .C2SO; cookers and iittinu'S. ,£25(1; and residuals, ,£5lO. The Masterton Borough Council has decided that the weekly half-holiday shall be held on Thursday during the ensuing vrair. The council also resolved that (lie Government should bo requested to fix Saturday as the day for the half-holiday throughout New Zealand. A copy of the resolution lias been forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, and one each to the respective members for the Masterton and tho AVairarapa electorate.*. The Mavor of Masterton (Mr. W. H. has left on a short holiday in the South Island. Subiect to the sanction of tho Registrar, the Masterton County Council has nerced to take over tho road running t.hrouL'h the Te AVhiti soldiers' settlement. There arc at present 45 patients in tho Masterton Hospital, including five in tho isolation ward
