Replying to the .Mayor's letter urging that financial assistance should bo given to the Christchurch City Council to enablo it to carry out a comprehensive housing scheme, tho Prime Minister states that tho request will como before Cabinet at an early date. Mr. Massey adds: "The Government is anxious to render every possible assistance to local bodies and others in carrying out schemes for the housing of tho people of the Dominion, but it will be readily understood that the loans granted by the Government arc limited by the Act ol last year, and tho amount that may be lent 'to Christohurch City Council will depend upon the number of applications .received from oilier similar bodies.'
