THE HONEY CROP
SEASON'S PROSPECTS REVIEWED Tho Director of the Horticulture Division of tho Department of Agriculture has received {roiii the apiary instructors tho follow ine report concerning the honey crop prospects:— Auckland.—Tho Auckland districts are suffering from the effects of an exceptionally drv season. This has considerably reduced tho prospects of a "good lionev vield. Tho crop is likely to be below the average. Beeswax is still in demand. 2s. Hd. per lb. being offered. Section lionev is scarce, merchants are offering from Bs. to 9s. per dozen. This is double that obtained a few years ugo Bulk honey is bringing from sevenpeiicc* to eiglitpeme per lb. Wellington.—'The prospects of the honev crop in this district are as reported last -month, that is, a fair average yield is anticipated. As far as can be eathered from various sources rain would bo a welcome factor in honey production in some parts just now, but, notwithstanding tho yield will probably be up to expectations. All honey is scarce iust now. but tho new season's crop will relievo the situation. Beeswax, 2s. to 2s. 3d. per lb. Christchurch and Dunedin.—The indications generally point to a pood season. Latterly better weather has prevailed, and the bees aro storing well. In some districts extracting has commenced, and the aualitv of the honey is excellent. It is anticipated that tho surplus will ex-' need last season's. Prices are firm.
