FALL OF DENIKIN

S GOVERNMENT OVERTHROWN NEW LEADER OF ANTI-BOL-SHEVIK FORCES t t (By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright B (Rec. January 4, 5.5 p.m.) B London, January 3. 3 The Denikin Government lias been ) overthrown, according to a Moscow wire- > less message, ami a, coup d'etat has • placed General Romanovsky at the head of the anti-Bolshevik forces—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. "REGENERATORS" OF RUSSIA. (Eec. January 5, 0.15 a.m.) London, January 3. A wireless message from Moscow savs that reports from Taganrog state ihat owing to Denikin's defeat ho and his | Government have been overthrown and succeeded by a group called "Renegcrators of Russia"—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ESTHONIA AND SOVIET RUSSIA SIGNATURE OF THE TREATY. (Rec. January 4, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 4. The "Daily Chronicle's" Dorpat correspondent witnessed on December 31 the signature of the treaty between Soviet Russia nnd Esthonia for the cessation of hostilities. Tin's technically means only a week's armistice terminable thereafter at twenty-four hours' r.otice, but it actually means a month, as tho Esthouian Assembly cannot ratify the treaty beforo February. The interval will enable tho Esthonians to test tho Bolshevist professions of fraternity. The agreement recognises EsthomYs entire independence of Soviet Russia— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. OPERATIONS SURVEYED NOTHING TO FEAR FROM BOLSHEVIKS IN NORTH. (Rec. January 4, 5.5 p.m.) London, January 2. An authoritative summary of operations in Russia during tho last fortnight shows that the Russian moral in North Russia is good and there is nothing to fear from the activities of tho present Bolshevik forces. The Esthonians continue to repel concentrated Rod attacks. The Letts equally are throwing back attacks in tho Ukraine. Potjura's army lias been broken up and ho is no longer a serious factor in Russian politics. In South Russia Denilcin's retreat continues, owing to overwhelming forces which evidently are attempting to roach the Sea of Azof, which is less than a hundred miles away, with tho object of splitting up Denilcin's forces. In East Russia the Reds are driving back Butov's weaker forces towards tho Mongolian frontier. The Allied contingent on the railway is withdrawing eastward in conjunction with the main Siberian army—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn,Reutsr. JAPAN TO ACT IN SIBERIA AN ANTI-BOLSHEVIK BARRIER. (Rec. January 5, 0.15 a.m.) London, January 3. The "Daily Express" understands that Japan has recently been purchasing va;t stores of war material. Japan has i'ecided to take active measures in Siberia as a result of Kolcliak's- collapse. It is intended 1 apparently to establish an anti-Bolshevik barrier in Central Siberia, with a view to preventing tho Bolsheviks from crossing tho Angara River. Martial law lias been declared at Irkutsk, which is Kolcliak's headquarters. Kolcliak's plight is little worse than Denikin's. The latter is gradually being pushed nearer the sea. Serious news received is that tho railway across Denilcin's front lias been cut. Tho Reds claim to have advanced within forty-live vcrsts of Taganrog. They also threaten Rostoff and Mariupol. It_ is expected that the Esthonian armistice will enable tho Reds to divert troops south and cast. Great Britain has dispatched a large consignment of clothing for the relief of a thousand destitute British residents of Russia—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.,
