MOTORING FATALITY

A MrSHAr NEAR CARTERTON. (Special Correspondent.) Carterton, January 4. Tho death occurred on Saturday afternoon of Mrs. Louise Hey, wife of Mr. J. B. Hey, motor engineer, of Carterton, as tho result of injuries sustained in a motor accident, while returning from Mount IMusworth. In company with .some friends, Mr. and Mrs. Hey had visited tho mountain. Mrs. Hey and her littio daughter were in a rar driven by Mr. Hey. Tho party occupied two cars, and every precaution was taken to avoid accident at the dangerous portions of the road. In order to avoid a gap in a culvert Mr. Hey swerved his car to the 6ide of tho road. The car ran against a bank, which it grazed for o distance of 24 yards till one of the wheels collapsed. Mrs. Hey was unseated, but it is not known if tho sudden impact was responsible, or whether she jumped out. When picked up she was unconscious, and was brought into Carterton for medical attention. It was found she had been severely injured, her right collarbone being fractured, and two ribs broken. She never regained consciousness.

An inquest was hold yesterday afternoon at Carterton, before Mr. H. If. B. Trapp, J.P., acting-coroner, and a jury. A verdict was returned that the deceased was killed in a motor-car accident, no blame being attached to the driver.
