* BIG GATHERING AT MASTERTON (From Our Correspondent.) Masterton, January 1. Tho Masterton Municipal Park was crowded with enthusiastic Scots from nil part* of tho North Island to-day, the occasion bo:ng the forty-fourth annual Highland gathering of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society. Under tho manage-, ment of the directors and the secretary (Air. AV. Gillespie) the events were got off to time, nnd, generally, the arrangements mot with tho satisfaction of the visitors. The facilities offered by tho park for picnicking were availed of by many, while others took advantage of tho rowing boats on the. lake. The gato receipts (.£llO 55.) were a record.
