Tho golf championship tournament opened on Wednesday. Visiting golfers havo como from New Plymouth, Christchurch, Westport, Timnru, Hnwora, Oamaru, and Invercargill. _ This morning an IS-holes bogey handicap was won by D. Hnggitt (8). six up. C. T. Irvine was runner-up. This afternoon an 18liole stroke handicap mcdnl competition was played. Dr. Boss (scr.), 11; was the winner, tho score being a record for tho course. Tho previous holder. Mr. G. B. Rarnett, 77. The runner-up was D. Hagg.itt. In the morning a medal handicap of IS holes was won by Hnggitt, 81—8— 7fi. C. B. Wright was runner-up. 7!)I—7B. The latter won the medal handicap in the afternoon, 78—1—77, C. T. Irvine being runner-up. Si)—lo—79. The inter-club- match resulted: Otago, GSM); St. Clair, (W9. Tho championship qualifying rounds wero played, tiiose remaining in being Wight (St. Clair).
