"DAZZLE" WAISTCOATS
AND "PIED PIPEE" PYJAMAS. j
Tho reaction from khaki which show ed itself so markedly during t|io uumjmer is oven moro startlingly illustrated "in the colours and designs of men's winter apparel now being shown in tho .outfitting shops of the West End. (eaya tho London "Daily News"). Extremely riotous colours and luridly weird designs —among them Futurist, Cubist, Oriental, and Jazz—seem to be tho vogue.
"Tho fact .is," 6aid ono outfitter, "wo cannot get colours noisy enough to meet tho demands of tho men who-have been clothed in drab khaki during the pas I; four or fivo years. The livelier the colour and the louder tho design, tho quicker tho sale. Our men have como back to civil life w'i.th less sensitiveness to tho old conventions'in. dress, and with a determination to please themselves what they wear. And they aro simply 'colour mad." * 1 Vory few of the older arid more subdued colours are ehown. Among cardigans ono noticed many in canary and other bright shades of yellow. Loud checks and stripes in waistcoats _ aro common, and ono striking' design is a bright red waistcoat with front panels of red, white, ami block squares, and socks in similar colours to match. In pyjamas tho colours are even moro raried, and in greater demand than similar creations attempted'about 20 years ago. ,■ These garments in eilk include: Black, with ceriso collars and culfs and wiiitn waist band. Cream, with ceriso collars and cuffs. Ceriso. .with cream collars-.and cuffs. Bright -yellow, with black collars and cuffs._ All yellow, or all pink, with white waist bands. Cambridge blue, with white waist band. Pink, with white collars and cuffs. Socks and lies vie with oach other for the greatest colour effect. _ Tho latter include, besides a very ivido rango of regimental ami Paisley designs, fnntastio colour combinations rarely seen outside the tropics or a. Futurist exhibition. . In dressing-gowns, ono of tho loudest effects is a silk garment in what is known as a Bagdad design—brown, green, purple, and blue on a silver background. Tho same design is shown in imitation silk scarves (made from wood pulp) and in nocket lwndkorchiefs. Men's boots and shoes of grey suedo In imitative crocodile desien aro to bo seen in some shops, and although there aro a few striking colours in winter shirts, somo striking "creations" are promised for next spring, including a multi-check plaid in grey, black and «-httc, blue and white, or heliotrope and white. "Tho most interesting thing about theso fruitv colour effects," said an outfitter, "is their British origin. They are, not bought merely by tho old-timo 'knuts.' but by a much wider""circle or people." ' ,
