INCREASES NECESSARY TO MEET ANNUAL DEFICIENCY.
(Roc. December 31, 1.10 a.m.) \ London, December 2fl. It 'is officially stated that the 'incrcaso in the English railway rntes is necessary to cover the deficiency of fifty million pounds annlinll.y. Tho rates on milk and agricultural nroduco are unchanged. The increase on raw materials is comparatively small, and the increases on coal 25 jier cent. This means an increase in the p.rice of coal of 2s. per ton. The authorities hope that the increases will restore tho traffic that the coastal shipping has lost in war time owing to the lowncss of the railway rates—Aus.-N.Z. C'ablo Assn.
