FRENCH RECONSTRUCTION
WONDERFUL RAILWAY WORK. M. Claveille, tho French Minister of Public Works, has just completed his visit to the devastated regions. Tho "Petit Parisien" learns that he has brought back from his trip the most oonsoling impressions. The Minister observed that considerable efforts had been made to restore the railway system in tho northern departments. At tho time of the armistice 33,000 kilometres of main lines had be.en destroyed, as well as 11S0 bridges, seventeen locomotive depots, and the great works at' T'ergniei) and Heilemmes. On November I,' 1919, tho lines had been almost entirely restored and tho train services had been resumed at all tho stations. Forty per cent, of tho work required for the restoration of depots and workshops has been completed. The roads, the paper adds, have also had the attention of the authorities. Of ■iS.OOfI kilometres of roads which bad been destroyed 12.C00 have b"en completely remade while, of 31.17 lwidges which had been wreekrd. the majority were rcconstrucleil during tlio v.-:ir. Since 'lie armistice 373 wooden bridees and 111 metal bridges have been rebuilt.
