Perfect weather was experienced for the week-end, and Pulmerston North was very full of visitors for Hie M.in.iwatu races. On Sunday the various pleasure I resorts wore crowded, and the beautiful I gardens and esplanade were thronged. About S o'clock yestordny morning tho Viro Brismde received an nlarm from the Burton Nrewcry, situated in Church Street. On arrival it was found that a spnvk had set nlight to a portion of the roof, but this was quickly exHimuished. As show-in? Hie growing popularity of the molor-cnr as a means of conveyance, it may be mentioned that on the Iwo'milc stretch of raid loading from the Pnlmerston Borough to. the Awapuiii racecourse a procession of one thousand of these vehicles was counted, in addition to quite n number of motor buses. Yesterday was one of the hottest days experienced in Palmerston .North for years, the thermometer registering llfl dog..in the sun.
