MORE SURPRISES

Tho New Zealand tennis championship tourney was continued yesterday. The weather was perfect—hardly a breath of wind and brilliant sunshine—and one result of the improved conditions was a vast improvement in the general standard of play. Good progress was made with the programme for tho day. Forty- . six matches were scheduled, but fifty were played. Tho players still left in the different championships will be asked to play more matches to-day. but an endeavour is being made to spread tho i games over the day as much as possible,! to enablo the players to rest in the intervals between mutches. No player will bo asked to play moro than three matches in a day, but if the three should nil be Lard this will prove a very severe task indeed for most of them. • Following are tho results of the play yesterday:— Men's Singles.
