MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr P- L. Hollings, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. Mr. T. Ncave appeared for tho accused, who was allowed bail in the sum of .£SO. According to Sub-Inspector Emerson, the remand was necessary so that further inquiries could bo made. Accused's wife, from whom ho was separated, lived with a resident of Aitken Street. When first seen the accused ran away, but was chased and caught, and handed over to tho police. The story told by accused was that ho and another man were keeping aii oyo on tho former's wife, and were waiting for her to return to the house. On entering hor house the occupant found a sofa in the kitchen on fire, and how the fire occurred was a mystery.
