MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr P- L. Hollings, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. For insobriety, six first offenders were each fined 10s„ Margaret Mundy (against whom there was one previous conviction) was fined 205., and Martin Jtomueleon (with two was fined £2, Thomas Troy was fined 10s. for being found drunk, and for r-ommittiag a "breach of his prohibition order ho v-as fined A with the alternative d one month's imprisonment. , A remand to. January G was granted m the case of Bernard Brookes, who was charged with being a rogue and vagabond in that he was found by night without lawful excuse in the enclosed yard of certain premises in Aitken Street. Mr. T. Ncave appeared for tho accused, who was allowed bail in the sum of .£SO. According to Sub-Inspector Emerson, the remand was necessary so that further inquiries could bo made. Accused's wife, from whom ho was separated, lived with a resident of Aitken Street. When first seen the accused ran away, but was chased and caught, and handed over to tho police. The story told by accused was that ho and another man were keeping aii oyo on tho former's wife, and were waiting for her to return to the house. On entering hor house the occupant found a sofa in the kitchen on fire, and how the fire occurred was a mystery.
