TIGRITIVA WINS RAILWAY HANDICAP. A SURPRISE IN THE FOAL STAKES. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Auckland, December 2G. In the Shortland Plate King Abbey went to the l front at the start with Archie and Glen Cannie in close attendance. Coming i into the straight Archie was level, with King Abbey, and a fine race to tlifo post resulted in a comfortable win for Archie, with Canbwmdra second and Makcp'eaco third. Starland was coining very fast at the finish. Motmln was never dangerous. Tho meeting of iloorfowl and Humbug in the Foal Stakes was looked forward to with keen interest. Both horses looked very fit. Moorfowi was mado favourite on tho machine. Lucullan, Moorfowi and Humbug shot to tho front. After travelling about a furlong Humbug was eased up a little, and ran third until il'.e straight was entered. Humbug here made a forward jnove, and Right and Left also came up with tho leaders. Halfway up the straight it bccaine a raco between Humbug and Eight and Left. Gray had tho whip on Humbug, and l just succeeded in winning by about half a length. Moorfowi was three lengths When the field settled down to business in tho Robinson Handicap, Tinokalia was well out in front, and he led for four furlongs. To Oro began to move forward <1 couple of furlongs from home, and he was coming strongly. He had Tinokaha beaten as-they entered the straight, and, finishing in fine style, won comfortably. Clonmel finished fourth. The Cup was a great betting race, tne investments totalling over. .622,000. Uncle Ned .was made a pronounced favourite, but most of the others were, well backed. Affectation, Battle Song, and Bhto Cross were the first to show out in front, but after half -a mile had .been, traversed Tinopai shot to the front, followed by Affectation and Blue Cross, Kara lying in a good position, and going confidently. A quarter of a mile from honi'o 'linopai faded away,' and Affectation was also tiring. The field then bunched,■ and as they turned into tho straight Karo came out from tho others followed by Uncle Ned. Tho former raced on strongly ana ■ won by scvoral lengths. Tho paco had i proved 100 severo for tho favourite, who 1 was unable to finish with his usual dash. | Tho 'rest of the field had 110 finish left in In tho Grafton Hurdles Step and Movement were the first to get going, and tihey soon placed a big gap between themselves and tho rest of tho field. They raced together for a mile and a half when Step fell. Tenacious and 1 Entente Cordialo then set out to catch i Movement. Coming into tho straight ' Entente Cordialo was running close be- ' hind the leader, and made a determined j effort, but Movement had the raco well I in hand, and won by a length. I A high-class field of twelve horses . faced tup starter in the Railway flaiidiI cap. The public expected an exciting i finish, and expectations were amply fulI filled. Aluriliiku led the field at the start, followed by Silver Link. Tigritiya then moved.-into third place. When heads were turned for home Tigritiyn was in command, with Silver Link'in 1 close attendance. Tigritiva held Imposition to the post, winning' by half a length from Silver Link, w'lio was a . similar distance in front of Simonjdes. ft Neither King Lupin nor Jliss Mimic M were able to get within? striking di;- ' lance, and Giv/.ioue w.ns fourth. i The Nursery Handicap wsh won by [ Wake I'roin start to finish, though she 1 was rather hardly pressed by I'otono and !
