The event is being eagerly' looked forward to I)V music lovers because of the fact that Australia's popular prinia doupa, Miss Amv Castles, will appear as Marguerite Her singinir of the jewel song and t!i6 Invo si-ehos with Faust is ?aid to bu amunir the inoiT high-class efforts over heard on the operatic stage. Miss Castles, dVi riiij; her recent tour of the Eastern State of America, received a uniaue tribute from tho president of the Boston' Symphony OrclK-stra. "All Miss Castles' notes." he said, "are of equal beautv, and the greatest compliment, that could be naid Tetmzzini at the height "of her boom is that three of her hiph' notes, the particular three with which she roused her audience's rapture, were alInost as lovfllv as the corresponding notes in Itki Castles' voice. In tile cut of "Faust" will lie sonic artists new to.the Dominion : .Mr. Balph Brrolle (tenor), Mr. Baymend lode.r (baritone), Mr. Alfredo Valcnti (basso), together with Miss Vera Bedford (mezzo), Thclniii Carter (contralto), and Tom Minoguo (baritone). "Tales of Hoffman" will bo the second production of the season on Tuesday evening, and "La Boheme" will he played on Wednesday. A feature of the productions during the season will bo the staging -and mounting, which will be on an elaborate scale. The bnx plan is at tho Bristol. Holiday ])ox office arrangements are announced elsewhere.
AMATEUR TRIALS AT GRAND OPERA HOUSE. Owirm to tlio postponement of the Grand Opera season, and the Grand Odoki House thereby being vacant for Boxing Night, Mr. Vcrnon Spencor has decided to hold nnoHier of liis popular and hiirhlv-successful amateur trial nights, open to all kinds of vaudeville acts, sinsers, and dancers. The original .Tazz Band hns been re-engaged to help Hie fun nlona. There is reported to be a record number, of entries for the competition, and visitors to Wellington who have not had tho opportunity of seeing thie class of fun will no doubt have a night's entertainment befitting the festive season.
