NOTES FROM VARIOUS CENTRES _(From Our Special Correspondents.) MANAWATU The proposal to form a combined schomo for tho distribution of electrical energy within the joint area of tho borPulmerston North and tlio county of kairanga was fully discussed at a meeting held in tlio Boroug'h Council Chambers on Friday mailt, at which' there were present the Mayor,' .Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., and Councillors C. F. hpopner, M. A. Lliott, 14. 11. Crahb, and h. K. Lancaster, Mr. J. 1!,. Hughes (borclugli engineer) and Mr. A. 11. M. Wright (?>>Btticer to the Kairanga County Council). Councillor Crabb, as chairman of tho committeo which had been set up to go into tho matter, submitted a comprehensive report dealing with the proposal at considerable length. With regard to reLiculation tho report pointed out that it would be cheaper and more convenient to reticulate the borough and the country surrounding for several reasons. Expert advice was also given by Mr. Stark, electrical engineer, of Christcliurch. After, lengthy and careful deliberation tho following resolution was carried on the motion .of Councillor Crabb: "That this meeting of the I'almerston North Borough Council approves of the proposal for one combined scheme for distribution of electrical energy within the joint area of tho boiough ot Valmerston North and the county ot Kairanga, and that tho Kairanga County Council be notified and their.decision asked for as early ns possible." Tho.Mayor conveyed to Mr. Stark the council's appreciation of his address and advice and of the action of tho Clu'istch'.ircli City Council in allowing Mm to come up and assist tho local council in its deliberations.

Tho Palmerston North High School team brought back tho Heatheote Wiliinnw Cricket Shield from Auckland on Saturday, The boys were met at tho station on their return and heartily congratulated by lending citizens. The winner of the Gray Scholarship this year is Arnold Campbell, of the West End School, Palmerston North.
A croquet match ivas played at Danncvirko on FriJf.y between l'almerston North and Dannevirko clubs, when tho latter were victorious by one game.

The annual '"break-up" of. the Malahiwi School was held in the Holmes Estate woolshed, Mntnhiwi. on Friday night, before a crowded audience. The shed was prettily decorated, and the various items were much appreciated, the efforts of tflie children reflecting much credit upon the training of the teacher, Miss Freeman. The prizes were presented by Mrs. E C. Holmes. As R. Maxwell and Gertrude Field tied for the prize in the highest term marks, they were each presented with silver medals bv Mijs Freeman.
