WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The oxecutivo of the War Relief Association of Wellington mot yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. L. 0. 11. Tripp (in the chair), C. M. Luke, J. Hutcheson, J. Lewis, C. A. Erwin, and A. B. Atkinson.
Mr. Clement AVntson wroto accepting appointment as a member of the exeoutivq committee, and on the recommendation of tho Applications' Committee .Mr. H. J. F. Aldrich was also appointed a member.
The Finance Committee reported that it had considered ono application for a loan, which was declined. The applicant had returned three years ago after about seven' months' service in tho Army Pay Corps in Egypt, and was suffering no war disability either physically or financially.
The statement of finances,showed that there was a credit balanco at tho b,:J:; of <£10G3 12s. 7d. on account of the receipts and payments' account. The investments totalled JEM,S9O lis. sd. The statement of total funds as at November 30, 1919, was as follow;lnvestments, -£(>1,590 lis. 5d.; current accounts, ,£IOB3 12s. 7d. j potty oa-sh, .£2O. Total, XG5.67-1 7s. The excess of expenditure oyer income paid out of capital for the month of November was £2632 12s. -Id. Accounts amounting to 19s. were passed for pavment. The date of the closing of nominations fo- t.lm election of five members of the esecutivo to replace those who are automatically retiring was fixed for January The annual meeting will, it was decided, be held on February 18. The Applications Commitfce reported that since the last meeting of tho executive if. had met on six occnsions and dealt with H55 applications. Tho total number of applications received during the period November 27, 1919, to December 19, 1919, was 39.1 comprising ICO new applications and 289 renewals and reconsiderations. • There wero 140 applications still under action, nearly the whole of which were tho responsibility of other societies. The heavy payments made by tho War Expenses Department in respect to war gratuities had effected a reduction in the number of new claims rc-coivcd during the last three weeks, and the opportunity had been taken as far as possible to clear up arrears of wcrk, resultant unon the last few months rush of work. The total number of applications .dealt with during the six months ending November 30 was 2725, as against the total number dealt with during the six months ending May 31, 1503. showing an increase in the number of applications dealt with during tho Inst six months of 1222, which equalled nlwut 80.1. The reports that had been submitted l\v the committee to the Inst few meetinio of the executive had set out more fully, ran the report, the diversitv of tho applications that i had been dealt with, and the complexity of tho nature of some of them. It was hardly nMK»sirv, therefore, to go info the matter apain, but it nr'ght be added that there hail been no generol alteration, in the nature of the assistance askod and grunted during tho past three weeks.
