SCHOOL PICNIC
On Monday, in ideal weather conditions, the com'bincd Mitc-helltoivn, Te Aru. and Ghuzneo Street Sellers held their annual picnic at Day's tiny. About twelve hundred adults and children were present, and n most enjoyable time was spent. The various athletic events were conduct l *! bv the teachers, who also superintended the numerous games and competitions, for which a Jib»ral .lumber of prizes had been donated. Sweets, cordials, and fruit were provided free, and oach child received n toy at the conclusion of the day's programme. Every credit is due to the committee: Mr. L. ITennessf (chairman), Mrs. I/iwlor, Messrs. Dwyer, Haynes, 'fanner, Ilyland, and Hnrl:, and Mr. Griffiths,' who was a very hard-worked secretary, jnd tho doners of nrV.fs and toys, more, partieufarly tho Wellington Bowl in;,' Chi\ whoso re'spon*! to the 'appeal for funds was -cioro than generous.
Tn giving vent to his feelings on his discharge, an old soldier wrote to his lato colonel:—"Sir,—After"what I have suffered, you can tell the Army to go to ——." In duo courso ho ieoeived the following—"Sir—Any suggestions or inquiries as to movements of troops must bo entered on Army Form 123 XYZ, a copy of which I enclose."
