MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Goneral Committee of the Wellington Industrial' Association was held last evening, Mr. H. Mainland presiding. The secret;,./ intimated that in connection with tho reported t'hortago of nitric acid for commercial purposes he lvad received a communication from tho Auckland Association, stating that a con' signment was being sent to Wellington to relievo tho situation. Tho consignment, consisting of two cases, was duly received. In conncction with the association's, cflorfa to indueo boys and girls leaving schools to take up tho factory life in preference to tho commercial life, the secretary intimated that as a result of a deputation to the Headmasters' Association, that body agrefd to lend every assistance in the matter, and to inform tho classes of tho desirableness of ouch work. _ So far nothing further had been heard in the matter, and it was a question whether tho headmasters would be forwarding tho names of those of their pupils leaving school this year who wero desirous of entering the factory life. No further action was decided on at presjnt. In acknowledging tho association's congratulations on his appointment as first director of the Cawtliron Institute, Professor T. H. Easterfield wrote stating that he would bo happy, should it be within his power, to help tli.T association in every way possible. It was decided to make Professor Easterfield an honorary life member of the association. Iho annual conference of the industrial associations of New Zealand is to bo held at Dunedin on February 4. 5, and G next. It was decided to leave the question of delegates and papers in cho hands of the Standing Committee.
