MR. E. P. El SIT WORTH'S CANDIDAVTUBE. ' Mr. E. P. Rishworth addressed two meetings in the Hutt Valley on Saturday. During the afternoon tho candidate and Mrs. Rishworth spoko to a number of ladies in the' Oddfellows' llall, l'etone. ton matters dealing particularly with'the homo and home life, the uplift ,of tlio children, education,'anil the cost of living. At the close a hearty vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate, and a vote of thanks to Mrs. Rishworth were carried with acciamatiou. In tho evening the candidate addressed one of the most successful and enthusiastic meetings 'of his campaign, the schoolroom at Epuni being filled to overflowing. Mr. J. Brasseil o&upied the. chair. Mr. Rishworth spoke' of tho industrial progress needed by tho country, and of "the fallacies of general nationalisation. Ho / made a strong plea for a better understanding between employer and employee, pointing out liow successful had been the co-operative, system in Scotland and Englnpd, and what it had done toimnrove tho condition of the workers. The Government, the worker, and Iho employer had a direct intcr-st under the co-operativo system, the Government gettin;; interest on the sum invested for development: the worker reviving a bonus as well as wages, and the employer having the advantage of skilled .labour without the loss and waste duo to unrest and constant change of workers. One of ,the greatest troubles at tho present time in the developm?iii of our secondary industries was the lack of financial aid, and this had been one of tile drawbacks to starting factories in this country. Ho went on to deal frith some of the political insincerities of the T.iberal Partv, nnd pointed out that on flic land question and taxation they had made promise? which they had not attempted to carry ou(< in- the way of breaking up janri' estates and increasing direct, taxa- ' tioii. Mr. Rishworth quoted from tho Year Book to show the. actual • work whieh had been done by the Reform Government. A hearty vote of thanks nnd confidence was mo>-"'l by Mr. D.
