PROPOSED NORTH ISLAND A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

For somo considerable time past it lias been found most difficult to got any remits which might bo carried at the annual meeting of the Council of Agriculture given effect to by tho various agricultural and pastoral associations, and several important matters upon which tho conference agreed could not be enforced, as 6ome of the societies when receiving them had announced their intention of practically ignoring them, The matter was 'brought up at tho meeting of tho Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, held at Palmerston North yesterday, when a remit was returned from tho conference, which had endorsed, tho recommendation that in future any remits passed by conference should be submitted to all A. and P. associations interested, nnd if adopted by three-fourths of these they should bocomo operative and binding on all associations.

In tho courso of a general discussion it was pointed out that at tbo Agricultural Conference there wore many tblcgatcs w'lio had practically no affinity with A. and P. associations, and tho votes of tlieso very often defeated remits which were in tho interests of such associations generally, and these ' delegates should be precluded from voting on snch matters. It was, therefore, suggested that a North Island A. and P. Association should bo formed, embracing all these bodies, and if that woro dono that tlioro might bo a possibility of tho establishment of a Royal .Show in tho North Island, while if similar action were taken in the South there waa no .reason why one should not be established there. If this were dono, it was more than probable that tho Government would subsidise these two fixtures, and was moro likely to do 60 than to contribute to tho funds of tilio various 6hows individually. It was eventually resolved to endeavour to make arrangements tc call a conference of delegates from ail A. and I'. associations in tho North Island to consider tho matter.
