THE CASE OF FATHER O'DONNELL
DISCUSSED IN HOUSE OF COMMONS MR. CHURCHILL REFUSES TO BACK DOWN (By Telograph-Press Association-Copyriffht London, December fl. In tho House of Commons, Mr. Devlin, in moving the adjournment to discuss the O'Donnell case, said he tool; that action in consequence of the intolerable outrage that had been perpetrated. Ho demanded tho dismissal of all responsible for the insult to a brave officer of the Australian army. "Ho aslced Mr. Churchill to expresg condemnation of tho arrest and the treatment of Father O'Donnell, and to state what reparation would be offered for the insult and the humiliation, and that expenses would be paid. He understood the cost to Father O'Donnell was ,£IOOO. Mr. Churchill replied that ho could not bo expected to express regret when neither ho nor his subordinate had actcd wrongfully. When Mr. Churchill declared that O'Donnell's treatment throughout was strictly in accordance with the military regulations, Mr. Devlin interjected: "Who supplied the tissue of lies ?" Mr. Churchill said he had every reason to suppose that the statements were furnished in good faith as being strictly Accurate. He deplored the attempt to make a trivial episode the cause of a quarrel between .Britain and Australia. Forty Labour member. l ; and some Liberals supported Mr. Devlin.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

Father O'Donnell, in si letter to the "Morning Past," protests that Mr. Churchill -is "adding- insult to injury" by his tactics in the Houso of Commons. "Such methods," he says, "make traitors and weaken bonds of-Empire." Father O'Donnell adds that he resigned his commission in order to seek'reparation in the King's Courts against life Ministers and their minions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AN ARCHBISHOPS PROTEST. (Rec.
