NEED OF DYES
Government dye control officials are now in Germany studying tho situation in relation to the supplv of British dyestuffs. this is interesting in view of the widespread criticisms of the Government's' dye control system and the shortage of certain dyes in this country. Ihe British Chemical Tra.de Association has asked the Prim? Minister to receive a deputation.' They particularly criticise the action of the Dye-stuffs Licensing Sub-Committee in refusing in several instances licenses for ithe importation of malachite green crvstals of American origin. Tliev rav tliev have been unable to obtain supplies fnim British makers, and invite anv such makers to communicate with them if they can deliver the dyes. Progress was made by manufacturers {Turing the war, and the advertisements of British dyes in the technical journals show a considerable' range of colours; but 18 are starred, with the exjlaYmtory note Hint, "the supply of these colours is- restricted, ■ due to the shortage of plant." . , Textile manufacturers in the . north of England complain that they are labouring under great difficulties'owing to their inability to get dvewares, narticuInrlv Hie' bright colours which will stand milling. It is declared that manufacturers are far 100 .dependent on tho inadequate supplies 0 f Swiss firms. Dewsburv manufacturers say they have ineuiries from foreign countries, especially South Amcricn, for cloths of a bright colour, but they cannot ge£ such colours,
