CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

WELLINGTON CENTRAL COUNCIL. A meeting of the Council of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt was in the chair.

The General Manage; - of Railways wrote notifying that the question of the reappointment of a commercial agent was now being considered in conjunction with other matters concerning tho Railway staff and tho chamber would bo advised as soon as a decision was arrived at.

The council docidotf to keep the matter in view, and if no appointment was made a lecoinmaudation uiging the same 1.0 bo submitted as a remit to the conference of chambers of commerce to bo held 2arlv next -year.

Matters in connection with the recentlyformed Expansion League wero discussed. It leing reported that it was proposed to form a Wanganui District Deyelop--3i ;nt League, it was deckied to write to tiie_Chamber of Commerce in that centre inviting them to throw in their lot with the Expansion League. ■ Mr. C. M. Luke, who arrived at a late stage- in the proceedings, reported that ho had conferred with representatives from Marlborougii relative to their retrnest for the inclusion of Marlborougii in the area to be covered by the operations of the. league. Tho people of Marlbarousrh. stated Mr Luke, wero very kesn to inin force's with Wellington in order to lift their, province nut of jtejirescnt backward condition. They realised that interests were identical with those of Wellington, ano they preferred to be associated with the latte- province in preference to linking up with North Canterburv. ■ Members expressed pleasure at the attitude of Marlboroush, and it ive-s decided to give that province every facilitv for ioining the league, their application in the meantime to be forwarded to the executive of the league.
