MR. M'KENZIE AT IiOSENEATH. Mr. L. M'Kensrie addressed a wellatteudedi meeting .at Roseneath School. Mr. Burbrklge presiding. The candidate dealt with the subjects outlined in his previous address to the electors, oullininfj, his idea for land Rcttlemenr, bursting up large areas and settling the land to produce the goods in order to provide for the national debt and incrcasßsthe finances of the Dominion. Ho outlined his ideas of educational matters, dealing chiefly with the urgent need of greater technical educational facilities which must be nationalised and free to all. Mr. M'Kenzie pointed out the need of commercial knowledge and said more money was necessary to attract the very best teachers. He stood for improvement in the coal supply, and the opening up of new mines under Government control, and urged the need of better machinery to provide the coal for the household and Government needs. The Reform Government wanted to encourage immigration, but the fact was that we could not house the peoplo already here, and could not keen up with our present demands, so why not put our own homo in order before making new troubles? Asked if he were in favour of the Civil Service Commissioners the candidate said he favoured the introduction of some first-class" commercial men to bring the Departments into better business order, and would allow the Civil Servants representation on the Commission and allow tliojn to appoint an expert who would bo. conversant with the nature of tho Department under review. In reply to another question Mr. M'Kenzie said he favoured preferential trade within the TSniMJrc. He also favoured .in increased ..house allowance to school teachers to urovide for, the present high cost of livins. The candidate was accorded a unanimous vote ,of, thnlrcs and confidence.
