M'Nicnl, apprars to I'o gaining ground every day. Ho is a Dannovirke resident, and is assured of a big local following in his own -town, but ho has succeeded in making a good impression at tho Pahiatua' end .j>f tho electorate, and his 'supporters there are confident of his chances., His Liberal opponent, Mr. B. Ross, is an experienced campaigner, but he' has to rely on tho old Liberal backing, and even his supporters admit that he will require something more than that to win. Mr. Rice, tho Labour candidate, will' poll better than was at first expected.
