THE WHIRLIGIG OF TIME

LIBERAL LEADER AND A FORMER OPPONENT. . By TelcßraDh-SDCcial Reporter. Ma'rtinborouqh, December 8. Sir Josopli Ward practical ly told Ins audience at MartinborouKh to-night that lie intends, if returned, to offer Cabinet rank to Mr. Veitch. He declared that in order,to keep industrial peace there must be representation of Moderato Labour in tho Cabinet. The direct actionists, he admitted, were too oxtremo for him, and their policy was, in liis opinion, unsafe for this country. Then he went on to eulogise Mr. Veitcb, declaring liim to be a sane, industrious member of Parliament. If returned to power he said he would offer Ministerial rank "to a' man of that stamp."

Mr. Veitch, it will Iμ remembered, entered the House in 1911 pledged to .vote lo turn the Ward Government out of nfliro. Ho voted one* as pledged, but in that division the Ward Government was not defeated, being saved by Mr. Speaker's casting vote. After that Mr. Veitch supported the Mackenzie Government, and now ho supports Sir Joseph Ward. ■ It is common knowledge also that Mr. Veitch is scarcely recognised as a Labour member at all by Mr. Holland and his friends. .
