WILLIAMSON GRAND OPERA.
On Monday, December 22, the J. C. Wlllijunson grand opera season will bo onterod upon at'tho .Grand Opera ltouto with a gain performance of: "Faust.' The season is limited to thrco weeks, dining, which period twelve operas will be rendered in English, by Continental, American an/1 Australian artists. The company organised in .Australia |>y the Williamson firm numbers 125 people, 45 of whom are momliers of tho orchestra, while GO comprise the chorus. The repertoire as published reveals the fact that Wellington is to hear operas as "popular" us they are representative of the best to be found in the classical and essentially modem composers. For the music-lover pure and 6imple, thero will be-produced., works representing most of what is historically worth while in op&ra; and this inusio will bo given not merely instrumental;, but with the full voaal strength of a company of principals who have sung leading roles in the world's opeautic centres. Opening with "Fauet," suteenuently "Tales of- Hoffman," "La. Boheme, "II Trovatore," and "Madame Butterfly" will bo presented. The company includes Miss Ainy Castles, fresh from a vocal conquest of America, who has boen specially engaged for the season; and other special engagements include those of Ralph • Errolle, (from the. Metropolitan. Opera, New York), Eaymond.Loder, Carl Formes, Alfredo Valenti, Vittoria Lois, Uniberto Mosca, Browning Mummery, Tom Minbgus, Fred Collier, Eileen Castles, Gertrude Johnson, >TMma Carter, Gladys Verona, Strella Wilson and I-cah Myers. It is stated that particular attention, has been, directed to the etagiiig and mounting, ■ which will represeut tho most attractive phases of staßO production applied to grand operii. The- prices of admission for the forthcoming season will bo on a popular scale. The J. C. Williamson direction notifies to-day that the applications for scats for the first night of each opera should be received by Saturday next. The box plans for the first eix nights of the season will, bo opened at tho Bristol on Tuesday next. On- Christmas night, a grand classical concert will be given, when the, lull etrength of the organisation, chorus, rjid orchestra will appear in what is; claimed to be the; most brilliant concert programme ever presented to the music-loving community of Wellington. AMATEUR TRIALS. The box plans for the next Vernoiv Spencer Monster Amateur Trials to be held at the Grand Opera House on Saturday, will be opened at the Bristol tomorrow morning. It is-stated that the number of competitors already entered assures the success of these trials, which, when list held, were voted highly satisfactory. ■ The list of competitors include entries for vaudeville acts, t>al- ■ Mists, specialities, dancers, children and comedians. • :Plenty of variety is R iven- in the programme, and a Dip jazz orchestra <will-supply .the. latest music .of this popular band.
