A deputation from the Returned Soldiers' Association waited on Mr. Massey, and complained lhat returned soldiers were not. being reinstated in the Railway service, quoting specific case.", and also represented that land settlement on conn!it iwU'es wis not being vigorously pursued, and Hint several anomalies re-e-irdine erntiiitics should be rectified. Mr. Massoy said tlml; Canterbury had done more than other land districts in the settlement of soldiers. The Government had placed IWH) men on. the country land in the Dominion, and 2COO in bouses in the cities. Not even Wie British Government had done as well. i The Government never bought at extortionate p'iees. The railway matter would ho discussed in Wellington. He would also go into. tho question of gratuity anomalies.
