NEW SOUTH WALES LIQUOR BILL

QUESTION OF AN EFFECTIVE. VOTE. (Rec. December 5, 10.55 p.m.) Sydney, December 5. During the discussion on tho Liquor Amendment Bill, Mr. G. S. Beeby moved on amendment to settle the wholo issue at the next general elections.

Mr. D. Storey supported the amendment. He considered that it would he necessary to get an effective vote; otherwise they would probably get a 40 per cent. vote.

Mr. D. R. Hall interjected: They set 70 per cent, in New Zealand.

_ Mr. Storey replied: New Zealand is a little island in the Pacific 'about the size of n pocket-handkerchief. No one of any importance comes from there. (Laughter.) Mr. .Beeby's amendment was. defeated. —Press Assn.

[The Bill proposes tn extend t> o'clock closing, suspend local option, reduce the number of licenses under a scheme similar to that operating in Victoria (including compensation for dispossessed licensees provided by the publicans themselves), and a referendum on the question of prohibition.]
