MEETING OF COMMITTEE!
Tho last committee meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club was attended by Messrs. C. M. Banks (chairman), B. Donne, C. C. Holmes, W. Stuart, Wilson, H.- Lloyd, J. T. Williamson, W. Mantell, L. 11. Partridge, W. Pryor, and the secretary (Mr. H. J. Stott). The Wairarapa Automobilo Association wrote asking if assistance could be'givenfor tho installation of a telephone on tho Wellington side of tho Eimutakas at Mr. Don's houso, the idea- -boing to bo ablo in tho ovent of an accident to communicate with Featherston and Wellington. They suggested a party lino from Featherston to Mr. Dons place, taking in tho 'phono at Davidson's, on the other side of tho Riniutakas. who would pnyr, an annual subscription-. They that the- cheapest method of erection would bo to have the line surveyed, and then obtain some idea of. tho cost, tenders to bo called for tha erociton.
It was decided' to ask the 'Wairarapa Association to get particulars as to the cost, and to secure- tho co-operation of the local residents. Tho committed would then bo prepared to support tho proposition. , . ' It was decided to adviso the N.Z. Automobile, Union, on tho recommendation of members,, at tho annual general meeting, that no maximum speed limit on main roads should bo laid down by tho club. _;, , ~ „ ,~/ Mr. W. Stuart Wilsons motion that it bo a recommendation to the Minister of Internal Affairs that, the Victorian road system bo established .in New Zea-. land, was referred to the N.Z. Automobile Union with tho, club's support. The dangerous condition of tralno at Courtenay Place and Kent Terace was fully discussed, and it was decided that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. C. M Banks, W. Pryor, and the secretary, should interview Mr. Drake, the> motor - inspector, in order to secure information on the subject, and afterwards make an appointment to interview 'the City Co lt n was decided to ask' tho Wellington City Council to erect a board on the road between Petone and. Wellington indicating' the speed limit allowed by the decided that in the event of the tram lino from the Fire Station to Clyde Quay being made along Wakefield Street, the- council should bo requested to widen this .street. The Lyall Bav Municipal Electors Association wrote asking if the club won d give their support by sending cars to the Lyall Bay Victory Gala, to bo hold during tho Christmas holidays. It was decided that this matter must bo left to individual members. _ • On the motion of Mr. W.
