CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET
Br -P-pm AmnniMllnn. Christchurr.h, December 5. There has been brisk business in chaff during tho past few days, inquiry being keen on the part of farmers. Supplies are coming to hand in fair quantities, and the local demand is being fairly well met. The North Island demand is still keen, but the lack of shipping is pre•venting operations being developed as they would otherwise be, The north is very short of chaff, but merchants havo had to advise in some cases that orders can only bo fulfilled contingent on transport facilities being arranged by the inquirers. Up to £& per ton is being offered for good oaten-sheaf chaff at country stations. There is a good demand from the North Island for Italian ryegrass, and several extensive orders have been completed by local merchants. Cocksfoot, however, is in less demand, North Island requirements being largely met by locally-grown supplies. Oats are in scarce supply and all available are readily saleable at ss. per bushel, at country stations, for the threo principal varieties. Merchants' dealings in potatoes are over, any supnlics held locally bv growers being 6old direct to consumers.
