An agreement has been signed by tho British Red Cross Society antt. hie Order of St John, under which the joint workin" of tho two corporations, wliioh liiwl good results during tho war, will con'V joint council, consisting of an equal number of members of each body, is set up, and will have tho general control ol tne work of tno two corporations. Tho British Red Cross society has petitioned the Privy Council for an extension of its charter to empower it to dial witli tho work named m Article 25 of the Covenant of the Leaguo o£ Nations: Ihe improvement of health, the prevention of disease, and tho mitigation of suffering throughout the world." Tho Mattel's whioli will como under the immediate attention of the joint council include: (1) Care of sick and wounded men whether on tho active list or demobilised; (2) such care as may still be necessary for prisoners of war; (3) care of those suffering from tuberculosis, having regard in'tho first pace to soldiers and sailors; (-1) child welfare; (5) work parties to provide garments for hospitals and health institutions in need of them; (li) assistance in-all'branches of nursing, health, and welfare work, auxiliary to the Ministry of Health.
