According to the New York "Journal of Commerce" the 97 German vessels seized in United States porta have been appraised by a Navy Department Board as having a value of only £6,E39,0C0 at the normal rale of exchange. The Vaterlaud (now ronamed the lieviath.m], of 54.CC0 tons, has. been , valued at £1,404,000; the George' Washington, of 25,6/1) tons, at £471,460, and the Kronprinzessin Cccilie, of 19,503 tons, at £353.192. The only other vessels which were considered to be worth more than £200,000 wera tho Oinoinatti, AmeriUa, Kaiser Wil'uelm 11, President Grant, c."4 President Lincoln. The journal adds that "it ia not known upon what basis the appraisals were mado, for, it would soem that the passongor liners have boon given a rather penurious survey. Captain 11, Oweps is still in command, with Mr, A;damß as chief officer. The vosssl left Wellington on February 28 last in ballast, and proceeded to Yavau, where sho loaded copra for 'Frisco. A very smooth passage was experienced all the way. In tho tropics the vessel .was becalmed for seven weeks, and >ireat Ineonvenienco was felt."
