THE MOTUEKA SEAT
SITTING MEMBER DOING WELL. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Motueka, December i. The contest here is proceeding steadily. Mr. li. P. Hudson seems certain to hold Motueka in the interests oflieform. He is opposed by Mr. P. li. Loumx (Liberal) and Air. Power (Labour). Mr. Lomax commenced his campaign before Mr. Hudson returned from tile session, but he seems to bo making little progress. There seems to be a lack of driving force behind his efforts, hi fact, there is a growing opijiion that Mr. Lomax will have to be content with third place at the poll, on account of the waniii'' popularity of the Wardists iu this district, and any leading Liberals are supporting Mr. Hudson. Mc. I'owcr, (ho Labour candidate, has entered the field rather late, but in cer-, tain parts Labour will poll tairly well.' .Ah - . Hudson is conducting a vigorous campaign, and meeting with support from iijll sections of the community. Many of the prominent Liberals, who were opposed to him at last election, art) working hard to secure his return. Election committees are formed iu all the centres and outlying districts, and aro meeting with pronounced success, Mr. Hudson addressed a large meeting in Motueka on November 27. and had a splendid .reception, there being not one interjection from beginning to end, and his remarks were frequently applauded. This was considered hv many of the old hands to be one of the most success! ill meetings ever held here. It is gcnerallv considered by those best aide to judge that. Mr. Hudson will liaie au absolute majority over his two opponents.
