COLONEL MITCHELL'S CANDIDATURE. Colonel Mitchell, D.5.0., addressed a large meoting of ladies at Brooklyn yesterday afternoon. In opening, Colonel Mitehcll said that women were now taking a far greater part in the affairs of the world than hitherto. He spoke of tlio wonderful spirit of the wouien of tho Empire and their splendid work during tho war. The candidate dealt with national superannuation and outlined the benefits to lie derived from such a scheme. Speaking oil education he was of opinion that this country must go a great deal farther in the cause of education than it had yet contemplated. It was a disgrace that our schools should liavo been allowed to fall into the stato of some of the Wellington schools. The teachers also were shockingly underpaid. The best men and women were required for the education of our children; but the best brains would not, under the present conditions, be attracted to tho profession.
