THE MANAWATU SEAT.

TRIBUTE TO MR. .NEWMAN. The "Itiingitikei Advocate" pays the following tribute to Mr. E. Newman, tha Government candidate tor Hun&u'atu. "We have the linn belief that after the present electoral contest is ended Mr. Newman, of Rangitikei, will be entitled to the title of M.P. for Manawatu, tho sew district which compris:« a large portion of his old electorate. Our belief is .founded on the facts that his political work has been effective anil appreciated by a very large majority of the people ho lias represented; that he is recognised .as a man who places the interests of the people before party, and that during his'political career he has acquired an influence with the leaders of (lie party. This last has been due to his ability and grasp of political questions. In his speech at Turakiun, he dealt with most of tho political questions' of the day in a manner which showed that he fully understands their bearings, and also indicated the lines' on which legislation and administration should proceed. His old constituency lias frequently benefited by his shrewdness, and persistency in pushing any movement to conclusion, and we linvp no doubt that this has been noted b.v others, who now come into thu new. .Marawalu electorate 1 . Jlr. Newman . is not a man who seeks the aid of oratorical fireworks. His speeches are models ofcco 1 statement, tolling facts, and calm, logical reasoning. He comes before the Manawatu electors as a man well known, most »f whose public actions liavo been under keen scrutiny, and whose political career has been watched with interest. The interest he has taken in matters affecting the various local bodies alone has made him a host of friends. His performances in the past stamp him as worthy of support, ami the con fiance that in the future his career will 'jive equal satisfaction. -He is one who can be fully trusted to support those engaged in tho great problems now before the country, and assist in solving them to tho satisfaction of tlie oeoplfl and Mio benefit of New Zealand."
