OSAKA SHOSEN KAISHA. Messrs. Cardale- aud Scott, local agents for the Osaka Sliosen Kabushiki Kaisha, have forwarded a copy of that company's business report aud accouuts for the halfyear ended June 30. Of tho Australian service tho report says:—"Our trade with Australia Etill remained in dullness, and furthermore the keen competition among shipping ooucerns engaged in this lino ■gave rise to extraordinary fall of freight." The number of the company's rteaniers employed together with those chartered during the term totalled 151 with an aggregating tounago of 580,892 tons which wero allotted to 48 home and foreign services aud carried 1,179,142 passengers and 67463,225 pieces of cargo at a charge obtained, amounting to fo,o/9,C{'9 ..-en. 'Adding to the above other miscellaneous receipts, total receipts of 73,581,799 yen were obtained, after subtracting from which the total expenditure of yen, not profits of 26,059,960 were realised. A's compared with tho corresponding term of last jear, an increase of yen was made in tho total receipts, but a- decrease of 9,£06,907 yen in net profits was seen, while as compared with last term, a decrease of 20,250,985 yet in net profits is shown. The reserve.-! are shown as 69,049,01J yen and the dividend figures as 40 per cent, High as this dividend is it is far behind the 1918 figures, when 60 per cent, wa.s paid, 'i'iio fleet now comprises 162 vessels of a gross tonnago of 383,389 tons, and in iddition there are eight steamers being built, of a combined tonnage of 60,0C0 tons.
AJANA SOLD. BOUGHT BY N.Z. SHIPPING COMPANY. Tho 'New Zealand Shipping Company announced yesterday that the company had completed tho purchase of the well-known steamer Ajana. The Ajana has been a regular trader to Australia ever since she was launched. ■ She is a steel twin-scrcw steamer of T759 tons gross and 4673 tons net, and was built in 1912 by Messrs. Russell and Co. at Port Glasgow to tho order of the Australind Steam Shipping Company Ltd., of London. She is ''54ft. long, 66.2 ft. .beam, and has a depth of 36ft. Tub Ajana ib fitted with electric light, and refrigerating machinery, the lauer of which consists of a duplex refrigerator, by tlio Haslam Foundry and Engineering Co. Ltd., the Bystcm of refrigerating being brine and charcoal, the ice-melting capacity boing 93 per hour. Her . refrigerated capacity is of six chambers, carrying 160,C00 cubic feet. Her ileactweigiu capacity, including bunkers aud cargo, is 10,400 tons and her speed is-* 13 knots., Captain A. Hunter is in command of iho vessel. • Tho Ajana was last in AVellington on October j!3, when she arrived to the agency of tho New Zealand and African from London, via Panama. Tho Vacuum Oil Company advised as follows yesterday regarding jailers bringing oil cargoes to their agency:— Tho AVilliam E.
