NOTES FROM VARIOUS CENTRES' (From Our Snecial Oorrospondfnts.i WAIRARAPA Tho annual spring show of the Featherston District Horticultural and Industrial Society was opened yesterday afternoon, hut the weather conditions "wero unfavoura'Me. However, the event was well attended, both afternoon and evening. Tho entries were satisfactory, having in view the backward spring experienced, and the arrangements generally reflected credit on the committee, headed by the Rev. ,T. G. S. Bartlett (chairman), and organised by tho secretary (Mrs. As K. Wickens). A very pleasing musical programme formed the entertainment feature of the exhibition in the evening. MANAWATU Tiie vital statistics for Pahnerston North for the month of November showthat there were 4-4 births, 13 marriages and 13 deaths. Tlieo were no bankruptcies recorded in Palmcrston North during November. Tho Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association is engaged in carrying <ft>t further improvements on its show grounds at Palmerston North. In view of tho reinstatement of the annual ram fair a very commodious sale ring lias been erected under cover. The structure is litlcd with all the latest contrivances for accelerating the hmidling of tho sheep and tiio building is well lighted. A start will be made almost immediately with tho erection of the new buildings for the Bleeders' Club, which will also be located on the show grounds, and when theso are completed they will form quite a feature of the bnilding scheme. It is hoped to have the structure ready for opening at the winter show.
Tho month of November was boisterous and unseasonable. Rain fell oil 18 days, totalling 3.42 inchcs, while for tho same month in 1018 rain fell on 17 days, the total fall being 3-97 inches.
DANNEVIRKE There were no bankruptcies recorded in Dannevirke for tho month of November. During last month rain fell oil fifteen days. Tho total fall was 3.99 inches, tho bulk of which fell towards tho latter end of the month.
Thero is quito a gathering of State school teachers at Fongoroa in connection with tho summer 6chool, which will last a fortnight. Mr. ,T. R. Franklin has been re-elect-ed chairman of the Weber County Council.
Bcpresontations wero made to the Postal authorities for a daily mail service between Dannevirke and Herbortville, and also for a similar service Danncvirko and Pongoroa, via *<?'.■ i»er and Waione. A reply has now been received to the effect that the Department does not consider the increased expenditure is warranted.
In order to carry out repairs to bridges the Weber County Council lias had to 6ectiro supplies from tho King Country, there being nono procurnblo locally.
The AVeber County Council has fixed tho dog registration fees for 1920 nt lialf-n-crown for sheep and cattlo dogs, and ono shilling for dogs used for rabbiting. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt at Dannevirke at about 1-.30 p.m. oil Monday.
