MR. 1,. M'KENZTE AT HATAITAI. Mr L Jl'Konzic, Liberal candidate for the Wellington East scat, addressed a meeting of electors in the bowling pavilion at Hataitai last evening. Mr. A. Williamson presided. Mr. M'Kcirao said that the need of the day was increased production, lhis must Iμ achieved I>.V hard work and R ood management. As a Liberal he honestly belieral that tho finest statesman in tho country to bundle the financial position was Sir Joseph Ward. Tho primary products of the country were requisitioned Ity Hie Imperial authorities. In view of the price that wool could fetch in the Old Country,- some of the farmers wore asltuig llwt tho requisition should bo lifted. Ho wanted a mandate to go into Parliament and see that that requisition was "held down." The farmer should have- a just return for his produce, but tho New Zealand price of New Zealand products should not bo governed by the prices ruling abroad- Our education system was beinß neglected because there weiv not many votes in it. Pupil teachers and relieving teachers could not live on the salaries they wore receiving to-day. The candidate advocated the State ownership of tho best mines in the country. If tho railways wero owned by private entei prise, ho' argued, mines would be purchased to assure a supply of coiil tor Ha' had boon asked what his position on the liquor question was. Ho was not a prohibitionist, lint that was only his view and tho liquor issiio was in tlio hand's of tho people. There ho was content to leave it. lie. and his colleagues, if rottinied, wero going to look alter \Velliivlou's needs, and be as loyal to Wellington as Auckland members were to Auckland. . , , The candidate received a vote .ol thanks ami confidence- at tho conclusion of his address.
