NEW TRAFFIC ROAD

TO SERVE KILBIRNIE VALLEY. ' Speaking to a Dominion reporter yesterday the Mayor (Mr. ./. P. Luke) said that one of the works that would bq undertaken as soon as opportunity offered whs the'construction of 'a new road, throuch Kilbii'iiie by way of giving reliaf to Moxhain Avenue, and at the eaino timo provming an outlet for tho proposed now traffic tunnel through Mount Victoria. Anvone could see, on viewing the onormous growth, of tho eastern euburbs. that it was only a. matter of time when such a tunnol would have to. bo provided, and it might be necessary' to make the new tunnel large enough to t.iko another tram-track as well as provide a road for other traffic. With that end in view another main arterial road would be needed to traverse the valley, and that road, it hnoi already been decided, would bo constructed on tho Town Belt at the rear of those properties facinsr the western side of Moxham Avenue. Such a road woufd not only effect a vast improvement in Kilbimie ns far as traffic, facilities were concerned, but would urovide direct access to tho grassy slopes of the Belt from oiio end of tho valley to the other.
