Most 'excellent use in developing Japanese oversell commerce was made during/the war of tho existing tonnage and of the new shlpe as they came gradually into sorvice. As British tonnage was gradually withdlrawu from Indian waters for naval, military, and other national services, tho sailings of the established British lines from India, tho Straits Settlements, HongKong, China, and Japan had to be steadily reduced. Japanese shipping companies stepped in, and diverted steamers from Other routes to supplement the .services , between Japan and India. The net result of the various influences which have been at work is that most Japanese steam ship companies have been enabled greatly to strengthen their finance and fleets, while they have been enabled to pay unprecedented dividends, ' ' ...:• AYB.BHIEE TO COMPLETE.
