JAPANESE TRADE COMPETITION
NO NEED FOR BRITiSH ANXIETY STATEMENT IN HOUSE OF COMMONS Bv Telegraph—Press AEeociation-Copyrieht (Rec. November 28, 7.20 p.m.) London, November 34'.... In tho House o£ Commons Sir Auck- ' land Geddes (president of the Board of Trade), in roply to questions, stated that skilled time-workers in Britain werd paid from 10s. to 15s. for an eight-hour day. Somo skilled workers in Japan were paid 9s. for a twelve-hour day, but' other factors had to bo considered. Be saw no reason at present to fear that' British manufacturers would 1m unable to hold their own in competition with the Japaneso. 'l'lio enormous increase'in Japanese goods in wartime was wholly artificial. i(e did not believe that these goods could hold tho British or other® markets when again subject to British competition. There ■ was already every indication that the markets whiolr Japan had apparently gained in wartime- are. hungering for British goods.—Reuter.
