The appeal being made for funds to enable the Municipal Band to go to Dunetlin to take part in the big contest, is mooting with a, good deal of practical sympathy. During the war period tho bund has always been willing to give its services for patriotic purposes, and on that account subscriptions are coming in well. Mr. H. F. Toogood, of Wellington, baa been requested by the Pongoim Chamber of Commerce to visit the Akitio coast at an early date to report upon the proposed harbour echemc. The Pongoroa Chamber of Commercehas decided to recommend the Akitio County Council to erect a house- for the new resident doctor, as it is impossible to rent a suitable place for him. Twenty-two couples entered for a. lawn tennis Yankee tournament. The' winners were Simpson and Miss Simmers, M'Gove>rn nnd Mrs. Baker, Ransom-nnd MrsGreen. In tlie play-olf Simpson and Miss Simmers beat Ransom' , - and Mrs. Green, and M'Govern and Mrs. Baker boat Simpson nnd Miss Simmers. In tho week-end cricket match High School beat Dannevirke by 21 runs.
