London, November 22. Discussing the recent estimates of Germany's armed strength, an authority who has just returned from Germany stated that there are three categories of armed forces', Tho first is tho National Army, the strength of which is 100,000, as fixed by the Versailles Conference. Tho second is tho Public Defence. Corps, estiirmted at ]00,000, concentrated in the cities, and tantamount to a permanent military police. All its members are exSoldjoiß, and living in 'barracks. Tho third, category is the Citizens' Defenco Corps; whicli consists of volunteers, and sprang into existence as the ■ ) -psult of tho Sparfacisfc troubles. Its numbers are incalculable, but it is known to be woll armed and officered, and undoubtedly the reactionaries count on its support. The force possesses orgaaiisations in the rural districts, besides the towns. Stocks of arms and munitions aro scattered broadcast throughout Germany for use in emergencies, notably in Pomeranin, where every country house is an arsenal, Thi> eiilhority ciuot'ed added that Berlin iainost impressed by tho growth of Brit ip,\ prestige, The 'Germans, especially business men, believe that Britain is niost sympathetic towards the reconstruction of Germany, nnd look mo;t hopefully to Britain and her colonies for raw materials, without which Germany will starve—Renter.
