Allison) presiding over a- record attendance, of members. The bala-iice-sheat, which showed that the union was in a good financial position, its assets standing at .£l-;)SJ7 Hs. id., was adopted. The president presented the report of tlu> executive for tho half-yea 1 .', which showed that the membershiy of the union was -l-02<;, and that iO-lli nev.- niombere had been enrolled dnrinsj tin; term. 70 per cent, of the members being females. Tiie executive hud formulated a number of f|iip.iti<ine for submission to all candidates standing for Parliament. As the awards relating to private hotels and restaurants would expire in a few days, the executive had asked Hie employers to meet them in conference. The report u-.is adopted, as also was a resolution expressing the members' thanks .to the executive and the general secretary and his assistant for tlio manner in which they had looked after the interests'of the members of the union. Claims for a new award for private hotels and reslaiiranl workers were considered, and finally adopted. The decision of the Arbitration Court given in Christchurch recently relative to the engagement of workers' clans?, when the Court stated it was prepared to stale a case for the Appeal Court, was considered, and it wa.i decided to strike a levy upon the members for the purpose of creating a fund to light the case.
