THE KIDNAPPED CONSUL
SHAEP NOTE FROM -AMERICA TO MEXICO. New York, November 21. The Washington correspondent of the New York "Times" reports that ..the United States has sent a Note to Mexico, stating that any further molestation of Mr. Jenkins would seriously affect tho relations between the United States and Mexico—Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn. TMr. William Jenkins, United States Consul at Pueblo, Mexico, was kidnapped' bv threes masked bandits in October, and was held to ransom, with a demand for JJ30.000. The Mexican Government notified the United States State' Department that it would do all it could to secure his release. On October 25 it was reported that tho United States hao.' sent a Note to Mexico demanding that tho Mexican authorities should bring about tho immediate release of Air. Jenkins, if necessary by paying the ransom. The ransom was duly paid, iuul (ho consul was released; but it was not reported who had paid it. An official statement was made, however, that the ransom was not. paid bv the Mexican Government, and the State Department declined to demand that. Mexico should bo asked to reimburse those who had paid it.]
