THE LIQUOR TRADE
A mooting of tho National Council, representing all sections of tho licensed trade i" New Zealand was held in Wellington yesterday, and a number of resolutions 'were agreed to coucsrning ijho position of tho trado in view of tho referendum to bo taken on election day, December 17. An appeal to electors is mode in the preamble and resolutions that they ought not to disturb tho "good will and well-being of'the community," that they ought not to jeopardise o'r destroy the financial interests of tho trade, nggi'egiitiiig Home ten millions sterling, and that they ought not to lake iCI 500,000 in revenue from tho State, by voting prohibition. The resolutions generally set out the case for the Honor trade as against prohibition, and ask friends and supporters of the trade and nil fair-minded and patriotic citizens not to support candidates who aro ready "to p'aco prohibition first and tili,o industrial peace, commercial prosperity, and the financial and social interests of tho Dominion no whore,"-
