MANGAHAO HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME
By Telorraph—Special Correspondent. Palmcrston North, November 24. At- the annual meeting of tho Palmerstou 'North Chamber ol Commerce this evoning Mr, E. 11. Crabb, chaiiman of the Mangahao Hydro-Electric League, reporting: oa tho waiter, said tl x ab tjia scheme was going • along slowly, -tho league had formulated certain c'liestions to bo put to candidates lor Parliamentary honours who'were standing tor districts which would be served by tho schemc, and it was only ill cases whero replies were favourable that candidates would get tho support of tho league. Ho had come to tho conclusion that tho work should bo carried out ,u"« er * separate .board of works. He Knew that there was a deal of dissatisfaction amongst tho workmen at tho prices being paid for some of tho small contracts, and men were always leaving tho job. He pointed out that tho whole of the money required for hydrs-electrio works in tho North Island, somo sii million pounds, had now been voted and there was nothing in the way of the works being carried out. The engineers in charge of tho Mangahao. f.chemo had expresseil themselves as satisfied that they could complete tho work in threo vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Crabb for the good work dono by him as chairman of tho league.
